A personal stylist and shopper for kids?

I kid you not, Harvey Nichols has recently launched a new luxury personal shopper service aimed at mums who want their kids to look... well super stylish! But is a £500 blazer for aone year old a good idea?

Would you shell out £10,000 on your child's wardrobe?

Picture this, you’re in Harvey Nichols and a rail with the latest designer clothing is wheeled in front of you... but it’s not for you, it’s for your one year old. The first question that pops into our heads is ‘are you so vain that you want your child to have a Fendi scarf worth hundreds of pounds, just because you can afford it’?

Well, obviously some people are because the service has taken off for the store. Loaded mums are queuing up to get their children kitted out with this new must-have accessory. According to the in house personal shopper ‘It’s mainly high-powered working women who don’t have time to do it themselves.’

Mums are shelling out tens of thousands of pounds on designer kids clothes, but is this just because they see their ‘designer kids’ as a fashion accessory to themselves I wonder... I mean a baby grow for £5 is surely the same as one for £100, isn’t it?

‘Fair enough’ I hear you say ‘if they can afford it then why not’, but surely you have to draw the line at diamond earrings, handbags and jewellery, as a child would grow up with the wrong values... am I wrong?

Now the question is: Is this an initial lesson in fashion or a revolting consumerism?
