Global Cool Uncovers The Shocking Shopping Habits Of Women In The UK!

UK climate change charity, Global Cool recently unearthed a few rather shocking facts about how much we ladies waste on unwanted purchases each year. I was completely gob smacked when I read this and it emphasizes the need for us to better understand our own style with the help of personal stylists and shoppers so we reduce wastage!

    Swishing Party.

We all do it every year! We hit the sales and think that bright yellow snood is an absolute bargain and buy it without a hesitation as to when exactly we are going to wear it. The truth is that it normally clogs up our drawers and living space. Did you know that there are 900,000 tonnes of clothes being sent to landfill every year!

A big part of this spending on unnecessary clothes is done online and it’s anticipated that we waste £11.1billion each year on unwanted clothes. Global Cool also discovered that these women who shop online twice as likely not to return unwanted garments.

In fact over half of all the clothes, shoes and accessories bought by British women during 2008 have not been worn according to the charity. The research also interestingly highlighted differing attitudes across the country. Cardiff women were the most wasteful with two thirds confessing to buying clothes online which were thrown in the bin unworn. Women from Liverpool are the UK’s worst eco conscious shoppers both on and offline with almost one in ten of them simply binning unwanted purchases.

Global Cool are now hot on promoting the latest trend of ‘swishing parties’, whereby you swap your clothes between friends – no money changes hands. To encourage women to attend and organise their own swishing events, Global Cool will be holding a swishing party during the most influential week in the UK fashion calendar; London Fashion Week February 2009.
