However, since fashion blogger Tavi and Kelly Osbourne both sported a traditional granny hair style, a blue rinse, it seems the granny chic trend has taken on a life of its own.
So what is this sudden fascination with granny style? Well, the season helps with wool crochet, granny hats, tweed and warm thick midi skirts being very appropriate for the cold winter weather. Henry Holland featured crochet in his AW11 collection, inspired by his own grandmother. Midi skirts have been seen on virtually every designer’s catwalk for the past year. The ladylike handbag trend has been growing in popularity for a few seasons thanks to Mad Men and the nostalgia in fashion for a 1940s style has also contributed to the popularity. Stylish grannies have been featured regularly in Grazia magazine recently, with the Duchess of Alba’s wedding being a focus point.
Some of my current favourite pieces in my wardrobe include a purple tweed collarless jacket that belonged to my grandmother, a wool turban with pearls and a black doctors-style handbag that has the essential clutch handles to reflect a true granny style handbag.
Other ways to include the style include buttoned to the top blouses with a contrast collar or a brooch is a traditional granny style, but works so well for now.
Some examples from the high street to include in your wardrobe to be on trend now are shown here and discussed below.
Charlyee bow blouse £ 288 - A buttoned blouse with a pearl brooch is the perfect way to tap into the trend. Paired with a black pencil skirt, this is perfect for the office, or with jeans for a smart/casual look.
Anthracite lurex cardigan £282 & Ted Baker wool blazer £199 - Chanel style cardigans are an option for a more chic take on the granny style. Tweed jackets are the perfect way to channel country style granny wear and the blue handbag is a modern colour for a classic granny style handbag. All can be worn with smart separates for the office, or can be paired with jeans or dresses for a contemporary take on the trend.

Shopping is a chore for some, a joy for most but for some it’s an addiction identified by varying labels, and commonly understood as compulsive shopping. This condition mainly afflicts women and a trawl through the net gives myriad reasons for the disorder.
