There are many misconceptions when it comes to make-up and women of colour. We are brought up to believe that various shades of plum and berry are the only colours that are suitable for our skin tones. This limits what a lot of us wear and often gets us stuck in a make-up rut.

It's time to start experimenting. Why not start with a look that is timeless and very popular this season, as evident at this year’s Emmy Awards, the nude look.
A nude look is about keeping the skin neutral. Whether you are doing it for everyday or for the night you can change it accordingly. First apply your foundation, concealer may be applied to correct uneven pigment as is quite common within Asian skin. Try Supercover Professional Make-up, the foundations can also be used as concealers. Bobbi Brown foundations and sheer finish loose powders also are available in a wide variety of colours. Set with powder then start concentrating on the eyes.
Maybe you want just a sweep of shadow across the eye, try colours such as taupe, champagne and brown. For more definition, apply eyeliner and mascara. For a more dramatic look, a smoky eye is a must. Try Chanel - Les 4 Ombres Quadra eyeshadows (Kaska Beige, Nymphea, Spices, Mystic Eyes) use colours either alone or together to create smoky eye. The contrast of the eye to a nude lip will look stunning.
To begin the lips, apply a little foundation to even out if needed. Follow with a nude lip-gloss or a sheer lipstick; you can also use a neutral lip liner. Colours usually associated with a nude look are pale and flesh toned. Try a lipstick with a shimmer such as Givenchy Rouge Interdit Shine (beautiful range of colours) or Bourjois - Effect 3D Max lip-gloss. Finally for the cheeks, warm toned colours work perfectly for this look. Try a warm pink, coral or brown and apply lightly.
The aim is to find a perfect neutral palette for your individual skin. Asian skin comes in shades ranging from very light to very dark and every shade in between (Archie Panjabi, Padma Lakshmi, Lakshmi Menon). Finding the right colours involves trying and testing products, whether it being from the more expensive ranges or the high street ranges. The end result should have you feeling confident and beautiful in this look.
