I can’t say I’ve had many haircuts where I haven’t tied my hair back upon leaving the salon. In fact, I tend to put off my next haircut for as long as possible. My unruly, coarse hair proves to be a challenge not only for my day-to-day styling and care routine, but also for hairdressers. That is why I took the opportunity to pay a visit to the Errol Douglas Salon in London.

You may remember my recent article on the legend in the hair industry, Errol Douglas. With his remarkable level of experience, I decided to put myself in his very capable hands and requested a drastic image change.

When I arrived at the salon I was welcomed by beautiful, clean cut decor and friendly staff. Errol came over to have a quick chat and get to know my style and hair type. A few key words were thrown around, such as ‘angular’ and ‘asymmetric’ which assured me that he had a good idea of what cut would suit me. After a lovely chat, a little head massage and a hair wash, I sat down for my moisture intensive treatment. Soaked in a thick conditioner, my hair was wrapped up and placed under some heat. This opens your hair cuticles and helps with the absorption of the product. With hair as dry and damaged as my own, Errol said he needed to replace some moisture before cutting. Why hadn’t I had this before by any other hairdresser? My hair was softer than I ever knew it could be!

I spoke to Errol about the ethos behind his salon. He wants everyone, regardless of their hair type, to feel as if they can walk into the Salon and get the same service. All of his team are taught about different textures and demonstrate an in-depth understanding. They also pride themselves on blow drying, which would explain the constant hum of hairdryers that surrounded me. It’s a shame, but the reality is that not every salon can offer a good blow dry and opt for the ghd’s.

It felt like no time at all until most of my hair was on the floor. Errol manipulated my frizz-prone hair into controlled curls and voilà! Despite the fact I’d not had short hair since I was about five years old, I seemed to fit straight in to my new reflection. It looked like me, just a better me. My square shaped face and strong features appear softer, I look taller and most of all I love it! His talent in coming up with the latest trend reflected in my cut, fitting in perfectly with hair trends for 2010 whilst adding a new direction for individuality.

The Errol Douglas Salon really does cater for all things hair and beauty. Top international makeup artist, Ariane Poole, works at the salon providing makeup lessons, bridal makeup consultations, touch ups and any of your makeup needs. However if you’re simply looking for a spot of indulgence to unwind, their sanctuary is for you.

Errol has teamed up with Matrix Biolage and developed seven unique treatment programmes to completely indulge you and your hair. The therapeutic approach to salon solutions puts the spring in your step and the bounce in your hair.
