It has become one of those sporting events that is not only worth seeing but also is the event to be seen at, especially if you are passionate about fashion. The outfits on show are incredible with everyone there making a statement representing their personality which is very rarely on show in this way. Dress to impress is always on the agenda with lots of time and effort going into piecing together a suitable outfit.
If you are headed for the Silver Ring then you can take a sigh of relief and not worry about having to compete with the rest in showing off your outfit. In this area there are no dress restrictions. However, if you want to watch from the Grandstand Enclosure then you will have to smarten up your act.
I think if you are attending Royal Ascot this year then you have to do it properly, get into the spirit and take the opportunity to put on your very best clothes. It’s not surprising that jeans and shorts are not appropriate, with men, rightfully so being encouraged to wear either a suit or a jacket and tie.
Many ladies opt to wear hats in the Grandstand so as to fit in with many of their peers, but it’s not obligatory.
If you are lucky enough to watch from the Royal Enclosure then a real effort will have to be made. Ladies are asked to wear formal day dress with a hat covering the crown of the head and this is where many treat this event very seriously, competing heavily in showcasing the best outfit. In the Royal Enclosure only black or grey morning dress with the top hat or service dress is acceptable for men.
Interestingly, overseas visitors are welcome to wear the national dress of their country and now you know what is acceptable to wear and what is not - there’s no excuses for leaving the decisions on what to wear until the last minute ...
