Winter wedding outfits – the dos and don’ts!

Wedding outfits are one of the hardest to get right no matter what time of the year. Basically, you need to feel comfortable for the entire day, dressed up enough to reflect the occasion and be clothed appropriately for the colder weather – easier said than done! It’s that time in our lives when everyone around us is tying the knot and so we have developed some key tips to ensure all goes well on the big day.

The key do's and don'ts for what not to do are as follows:

• Avoid white, or any other similar shades as you don’t want to be mistaken for the bride or steal her thunder – a big NO NO.

• Steer clear of also wearing the colour of the bridesmaid dresses too – you may just look like a wannabe bridesmaid.

• Wearing a hat always creates a more formal statement and it’s the perfect accessory to accompany your wedding outfit that not only has style but functionality. There are some quirky little numbers out there from berets to headbands but stay away from the tacky feathered fascinators - they’re what we call ‘old hat’!

• Why not introduce some glamorous touches (one at a time) such as faux fur, glittery shoes, colour blocking or lace, all of which channel the texture trend this season?

• Super high skyscraper heels should be avoided, for comfort, but for safety as well, in case of icy conditions. Go for a platform heel, which enables you to glide through any frozen patches or heeled ankle or shoe boots with a textured rubber sole.

• Layering is a good idea, as you may not have your coat with you at all times. A faux fur or feather wrap, otherwise a shimmery cardi or lace blazer are all practical layers that will add that extra bit of warmth.

• Stay away from black and be a bit more experimental. In terms of colour this season go for Wintery colours, which are cool, bright and deep. Jewel-like colours such as fuchsia, turquoise and emerald green are some of our favourites, or if you’d prefer to try out the deeper colour palettes opt for burgundy, navy or royal blue, a deep red or an olive green.

• Finally, achieve eye catching and appropriate outfits by not wearing skirts too short or tops and fabrics that are too revealing – less is more and a bit of mystery is a great thing!
